FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What walls do you have and how high are they?

We have 3 different types of walls.
Traverse Walls: These are 2.4 m high and you climb sideways across them, your feet don’t have to be more than 30cm off the ground if you’re not a fan of heights.
High Roped Walls: We have 9 high walls, these vary from 5m to 7m high, 7 of these offer both Manual and Auto Belaying options and 2 offer just Manual Belaying.
Bouldering Walls: These are 4m at their highest point and vary from slab to vertical to varying degrees of overhang.

How do I get started?
Adults: Whether you’re experienced or an absolute novice, you’ll need to book onto one of our Level 1 Induction Sessions. Our experienced climbing instructors will give you all the information you need to climb independently, if you still not 100% confident after this we offer plenty of courses available to help build your confidence or improve your climbing.
Children: Will need to be booked in to an Instructor Supervised Session with one of our qualified instructors or a Parent Supervised Session with a signed off adult who has completed a Level 1 Induction.

What do I wear?
Comfortable, breathable, stretchy sports wear is appropriate but we do recommend longer shorts that finish below where harness leg loops would sit on the thighs or trousers / leggings. Skirts are not appropriate. Climbing shoes will also be available to rent.

Do I need to book?
We do recommend booking for any sessions that requires an instructor to avoid disappointment. We only staff for the sessions we have made available to book online and for what is currently booked in on any given day, so if you just show up we might not be able to cater for you.
If you have completed a Level 1 or Level 2 Induction and have been signed of to climb independently there is no need to book in advance as this doesn’t require our staff to instruct you.

How old do you need to be to climb at UP?

Toddler Sessions for little ones.
Club Sessions and Instructor Supervised Sessions for children and teens.
Climbing Passes and Memberships for adults and children.
